New beginnings

Tomorrow, I begin my graduate studies.

I remember my first day of undergrad. I was terrified. I got horribly lost on campus, trying to find my way back to the dorm. Santa Cruz felt like an isolated maze, in which, I was its prisoner.

So much time has passed.
And yet, still, I find myself being pretty nervous about starting school tomorrow.

I find myself worrying about what I’ll wear. I’m anxious about how my life will change. I’m worrying, already, about homework and 25-page papers. I’m worrying about commuting.

And, simultaneously, as I begin my first day as a student, Obama will be inaugurated and I will no longer be [as] ashamed to tell people outside of the U.S. that I’m a citizen of this crazy country.

New beginnings, all around.

I think it’s pretty amazing that Obama is getting sworn in the day after MLK day. Very excited about the possibilities! Cheers!

i can’t explain the magnitude with which i am jealous that you get to spend tomorrow learning. i guess one could say i am learning too, locked at my computer – but somehow the pursuit of knowledge is best rewarded by A’s, B’s and C’s – not a salary.

Have a great time easing back into school, and into this new version of school. You’ll knock their socks off.

Good luck Tristan!

I still have a year and a half left of undergrad left but I can feel grad school looming like that beast your parents always told you wasn’t in the closet but you knew was laughing at their naivete.

And hooray for new beginnings!

I just wanted to wish you luck with beginning graduate school. It’s completely understandable to be nervous (I know I was), but I’m sure you’ll do great once you get settled in!

All, Thank for your wonderful wishes of luck! Yesterday was exhausting and I walked away with a ton of reading! But I think I’m thrilled to be a student again. I hope you all got to watch some of the inauguration — I was in my car, commuting. But when I got to campus, I walked through the library and they had a television in the corridor broadcasting the whole thing. There were a bunch of students gathered around watching. It was quite moving.

Happy No-More-Bush’s to you!!
And, to those who are starting school, like myself, wishes of luck right back ‘atcha!
